List three jobs you’d consider pursuing if money didn’t matter.
- Sneaker sales or buyer for shoe department. I have done this before at a Dick’s Sporting Goods years ago. Best job of my life and it very rarely felt like work. I didn’t always like my coworkers, but I upsold better than anyone and had the most repeat customers. But I don’t feel like being scheduled for weird hours and having no control over my schedule.
- Lacrosse equipment shop owner. This is a long time dream of mine. I would provide services such as stringing sticks, certifying used equipment and selling it, and creating packages of branded equipment to make it easy for customers to choose exactly what they needed for their experience and desired style of play. I almost did something like this when I worked as Dick’s in footwear. We had brand ambassadors for Nike. Brine was interested in setting up a brand ambassador but it just never happened. I did get pulled out of footwear from time to time to help new players select equipment.
- Idea creator. I don’t have to actually implement any of the ideas, but companies come to me to think about something they want to do in a new or different way. I sit around, stare at the wall, and then give them the weird crap that rolls around in my brain when I unfocus and just let go. It could be pure genius or it could be a mess. I have no idea.
Money doesn’t matter to me. I set myself and my family up for success with my military career so now I don’t have to work. So I could technically do whatever I want if I had the money to invest and enough interest to hold my attention. But now my brain is starting to spin a little bit…lacrosse shop. With indoor space for organizations to rent for practices. Contract with local players for lessons for all the youth teams around. There’s colleges here with teams. Set up meeting spaces for coach meetings, league coordination, etc. Huh…this could actually be something that makes sense for me.
