Best question ever…
I AM retired after a 20 year military career with 9 deployments. I am available to coach the kids’ teams, take care of things around the house, move at my own pace, and not have to ask anyone for time off if I’m sick, want a vcation, or need to help my wife at her work. I don’t have complete control of my schedule, but only because there is adulting to be done sometimes.
I always thought I would work after the military but when it became evident that I didn’t have to, I decided that I also did not want to. Our life is already hectic with the kids’ schedules and sports, so me not having to commute to a job or spend all day working keeps our house steady while everyone else runs around.
