There’s been a lot going on for awhile with the ex’s parents and their youngest child, who turned 40 this year. This child was content to be kind when she needed her mother to watch her children during the day. This child has always been blunt and rude and sometimes made trouble in public for the rest of us because she would just start yelling at people. She once blew up at a women who she claimed parked too close to our car. She went off and it was really embarrassing.
The parents are in the process are moving where we are, which is always where many of their other family members live. The ex’s mother was born here and grew up here. She’s always wanted to come back and since we all ended up back here, eventually it worked out. But the final straw was this youngest child’s inability to act like an adult around the holidays two years ago and some uncontrolled hostility that has hurt just about everyone else.
But this week, a line was crossed. Her mother asked her to talk and clear up some boundaries and expectations and she went off and blamed her mother for everything bad that’s ever happened to her. Things like no one calling her on her birthday or planning a 40th birthday party. And somehow she believes that her mother is responsible for everyone else’s behavior. The text messages made no sense. The oldest texted this younger sister and said that he was never convinced by anyone to be mad at her; he’s just tired of her shit.
Then Tuesday afternoon happened.
I went with their mother and her cousin to look at the house they’re planning to buy if everything works out. The inspector was there and we were taking pictures and doing measurements. Then they dropped me back off at home. While we were at the house, their father called this youngest child and went off on her. And then she said some horrible, ugly things to him. His response was “Call me when you grow up,” and then he hung up on her.
And then…the youngest child’s middle daughter called up my ex’s mother and bitched her out. This child is 11. She called her grandmother and bitched her out more than once, hung up on her, and then sent a nasty text that she’s a horrible mother.
I can’t wrap my mind around an 11 year old calling an adult and bitching them out. Why is this child so aware of the adult issues going on in the family? Where does this child get the idea that this is acceptable behavior? If my grandparents were still alive, I STILL wouldn’t call them up angrily no matter what. Grandparents deserve love and respect, even when addressing issues. And no 11 year old should be addressing adults on issues that have nothing to do with them. If this child actually needed to talk about something with her grandmother, the correct answer would be for her parents to set up a time to talk and have a civilized conversation. The level of disrespect in this part of the family is jaw dropping.
The other component is this 11 year old is also supposedly into “demonology” and believes that she is the devil. She takes creepy pictures and growls at people for fun. And her parents tell everyone that they should not tell her to stop. They want everyone to accept her as she is because this is a part of who she is. I’m all about kids having unusual and strange interests, but it seems like this isn’t cute or funny, and it was intended to annoy the ex’s mother because she loves taking pictures at special events. This child carries around plastic knives and threatens people with them. It is not funny. Or cute. It’s actually disturbing, especially since she has zero respect for any type of authority, including her parents. One of her goals for this school year is to stop yelling at her teachers when she disagrees with them.
What the hell?
We’ve all stepped back from this part of the family because we don’t want to be part of the drama. We also don’t want our kids to be involved with this brat. She’s tried to get them into trouble before, but they always know better. I predict the teenage years will be rough for them since they decided that her behavior was funny when she was very young. It’s never been corrected and now they have a 11 year old who has no respect for anyone.
