Daily Prompt 2/3/24

Daily writing prompt
Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

Phone calls.

For some dumb reason it always takes me forever to get myself in a place to make phone calls, even though I know they will be simple and not nearly as terrible as my imagination makes them out to be. Sometimes I won’t even answer calls when i get them, unless I know who is calling. I hate answering a call and being stuck on the phone with someone, trying to get them to stop talking so I can be polite and tell them I am not interested. Sometimes I just hang up.

I just generally hate phone calls, I guess.

  1. It’s quite common to feel hesitant about making or answering phone calls, and you’re certainly not alone in this. The anticipation of a phone call can sometimes be more daunting than the actual conversation. Your honesty about the challenge of managing phone calls and the desire to handle them more efficiently reflects a self-awareness that’s the first step towards overcoming this hesitation. It’s interesting how, in the age of instant messaging and emails, phone calls have become a different kind of task for many. Have you found any strategies or methods that make initiating or receiving phone calls easier for you, or is there a particular reason you think phone calls feel more invasive than other forms of communication?

    1. It seems to be worse for me when I have to be on hold for any period of time. Some of my doctors’ offices are really bad about that and it just feels like I am wasting my time. So what should only take a couple of minutes can sometimes take up to 30 minutes, which is ridiculous when all I want to do is make an appointment!
