The farthest I’ve ever traveled from home was to the Middle East on deployments. There were several times where we had some down time and were able to get off base to see things outside of our very brown and tan world on the base. One of those times was in 2016.
A few people on my crew discovered that there was a beautiful resort where you could pay a reasonable amount of money, take a boat ride, and then relax on an island nearby for the day. The cost covered the boat ride, using the pool and beach, one meal, and you could also schedule additional services like massages for more money. I think there were 8 of us who decided to go and it was awesome.
The pool was perfect temperature, even in the heat of August. The food was amazing. After we took the boat back to the downtown area, we ate again and walked through the market. It was so joyful to experience another culture and we didn’t have any trouble with anyone, even though any person in that location would have a good reason to despise us.
It wasn’t a secret location, but I always think it’s best to be vague about the specifics. If people care enough, they can figure it out fairly easily.
