Daily Prompt 8/30/23

Daily writing prompt
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

There’s a few options I can think of easily like yes, sorry, and some choice words that I can’t seem to shake unless I’m around certain people and I want to be really careful.

I think I often agree to things I don’t want to do because it’s hard to say no sometimes. It’s definitely a work in progress because I don’t want to be rude but I also know that it’s important to me that I am looking out for myself and not taking on more than I should. I’m prone to doing that and then losing steam during whatever it is I agreed to do that I didn’t want to do.

And I’m not removing sorry from my vocabulary completely, just reducing it to only times when I should accept responsibility for something I actually did. It still comes out often, but not as easily as it used to, so that’s improvement.

And my swear words…I’m way better than I was back in the military. Especially on deployment, every other word out of my mouth started with F$%@. Usually eff this, eff that, eff you, I don’t give an eff, I don’t effing give an eff, yeah it was definitely bad. I can usually turn it on and off but during my one year deployment i found it very difficult and needed about two weeks of actually trying to not swear to get ready to live with the small people again. If this was a 10 and being around my grandmother was a zero, I would say I’m at a 4 or so now, sometimes less, sometimes more. I did have one big mistake with it last soccer season when I said “What is this shit” not realizing a player was next to me. I mumbled “sorry” and he said, “It’s all good, I hear it at home too.” Oops on me AND his parents!
