Daily Prompt 8/8/23

Daily writing prompt
What profession do you admire most and why?

I don’t really admire any one profession over any other. I think every profession and job is important in some way, even if it’s something that might seem frivolous to another person. It’s easy to say doctors and nurses are important, but what about other healthcare professions? Or hospital cooks and janitors? The place has to be cleaned and patients need to be fed.

Teachers are important and I definitely admire them too. But what about bus drivers? Cafeteria staff? No one admires the lunch ladies or the bus drivers, even though they bring the kids to school and the cafeteria staff feeds them.

It’s easy to admire the obvious choices like teacher, doctor, president, whatever. But I admire people who are doing exactly what they always wanted to do and worked to get there, and people who learned to love what they do, and people who are doing something they can do just to pay the bills until they can get in a better place to work towards what they want to do. I admire the people that gave up what they wanted to do because they had no options and just needed to work at something. And I admire the people who stay at home for whatever reason, whether it’s because they can’t work for health reasons, they’re home with children, they’re retired or whatever.

I admire people for who they are and how they treat others, not what they do for their job/profession. Our value isn’t wrapped up in what we do; we all have value just as we are without any productivity requirements.
