Daily Prompt 7/3/23

Daily writing prompt
What are you most worried about for the future?

I am worried about a few things in the far distant future like leaving my kids unprepared for when I’m gone, the environment, the culture and political world that surrounds all of us, and if/when people will start acting civil to each other again.

I don’t want to think too much about my demise at this point in my life, and with my youngest only 10 years old and my oldest just 20, I don’t want to talk about it so much that it becomes a thing they get anxious about. But I also don’t want to avoid it so that they don’t know what my wishes are, what benefits are available to them as military dependents, and what items of mine I want each of them to have. It seems sinister to even think about it at this point in my life.

I don’t want to talk much about the environment, but I can see the impacts of pollution and people/companies not being bothered over generations to take care of our planet. The extremes are becoming closer to normal and this new normal is not so hospitable for human life. It’s extremely concerning.

I hate how divided we all have become. Granted, there seems to be people invested in making us hate each other at the middle class level and below. We fight for the scraps the rich throw to us, all while blaming each other for taking our piece of the pie. I mean, our crumb of the pie. There’s so many more of us than them. Why do we allow this division? Why can’t we see that the only way to improve things for all of us down here is to shake them off their thrones up there? Especially here in the US, where we vote these people in. Why do we vote in a bunch of rich people who only care about making the system better for them? It makes no sense why we fight amongst ourselves when our real beef should be with the ones holding all the pies and only sharing the crumbs with us.

We need to remember how to be nice to everyone around us and stop focusing on what is different. I wish we took the time to understand each other and our pasts and how all of that impacts the way we view the world. Sometimes I feel like if we knew each other hopes and dreams, we would suddenly see all the humans around us instead of the differences between us.
